Lena Dunham’s Too Much features a reimagining of Fergie’s London Bridge, correcting a 20-year-old culture mix-up. See the video here.

What happens when a pop icon, a comedy queen, and one of TV’s most anticipated new series collide? Netflix’s Too Much — from creator Lena Dunham — celebrates its global launch by reimagining Fergie’s hit 2006 ‘London Bridge’ music video.

The new video was created in collaboration between Mia Barnes (music video director), Lena Dunham and Fergie herself — paying homage to the power of reinvention and the spirit of Too Much. The original 2006 video was shot on Tower Bridge. This time, nearly two decades later, Megan Stalter — who leads the series as Jessica — and Fergie shot the new video on the real London Bridge.

Too Much, premiering globally on Netflix on July 10, follows Jessica, a workaholic New Yorker who relocates to London after a painful breakup — and unexpectedly finds love with Felix, an indie musician played by Will Sharpe. The series, created and directed by Lena Dunham, boasts a star-studded ensemble that includes Emily Ratajkowski, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Watts, Andrew Rannells, and Rhea Perlman, with appearances by Andrew Scott, Kit Harington, Jennifer Saunders, Jessica Alba, and Rita Ora.

FERGIE

Fergie said:

“As an American girl who once had her own adventures in London while filming the video for ‘London Bridge,’ I instantly felt a connection to this project. Being that the series was written and directed by Lena Dunham and starring the brilliant Megan Stalter about an American girl navigating her own London experience — my creative soul couldn’t say no. Lena told me ‘London Bridge’ was the only song she could imagine introducing the show, and I couldn’t have been more honoured. So off we went to London to reimagine the original ‘London Bridge’ video — only this time, we did it right. Twenty years later, we finally filmed on the actual (albeit slightly messier) London Bridge, because what isn’t ‘too much’ about filming a video for a song you already have a video for.”

Lena Dunham said:

“Fergie has always been deeply iconic to me, both her style and her substance. In a shiny pop landscape, she was pure glamour while representing honesty and the right kind of too much. ‘London Bridge’ was the only song to start this show, and we are all still pinching ourselves that she agreed to come and bless our world.“

‘London Bridge’ is the opening song on the soundtrack for Lena Dunham’s new Netflix series Too Much, about an American finding love in London. The new video corrects a 20-year-old pop culture mix-up: the original music video featured Tower Bridge, not London Bridge. Fergie stars in the new video alongside lead Too Much actor Megan Stalter. The video is now live on Fergie’s YouTube channel, with Too Much premiering globally on Netflix on Thursday, 10 July

THE PREMISE

Jessica (Megan Stalter) is a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties, reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows. When every block in New York tells a story of her own bad behaviour, the only solution is to take a job in London, where she plans to live a life of solitude like a Bronte sister. But when she meets Felix (Will Sharpe) – a walking series of red flags – she finds that their unusual connection is impossible to ignore, even when it creates more problems than it solves. Now they have to ask themselves: do Americans and Brits actually speak the same language? From the creator of Girls and the producers of Love Actually. Too Much is an ex-pat rom-com for the disillusioned who wonder if true love is still possible, but sincerely hope that it is.
