Crunchyroll’s Nyaight of the Living Cat proves it’s one of the best anime of the Summer season. Check out our review.
The cat apocalypse is well on its way with Nyaight of the Living Cat. Episode 3 premieres tomorrow on Crunchyroll, and episode 4 next Sunday. But are the newest episodes worth the price of a subscription? Let’s unpack these latest volumes.

BUILDING UP THE TENSION
Like episode 2, the third episode opens with an intriguing scene related to the beginning of the apocalypse. The scenes are not directly connected to the main characters, but they provide the audience with a glimpse of the bigger picture. As I mentioned earlier, nobody wants to watch people kill cats, so the series has found original ways for the characters to “fight” against the cats. The opening scene of the third episode literally explains why the army is not shooting cats. The series provides answers for everything that could be considered a plot hole and knows exactly when to deliver these answers.
Episodes 3 and 4 continue the story from the second episode. The third episode pays tribute to yet another kind of horror film. It’s not action-packed, but it’s all about building up the tension, creating an environment full of fear and doubt. Characters stuck in a supermarket with cats waiting outside? You can easily see where this is going. And it’s thrilling to see it all unfold. There is even a scene recreating the classic moment with Sigourney Weaver from Alien.

A HIGH DOSE OF ADRENALINE
On the other hand, the fourth episode is one that gives you a high dose of adrenaline. That one is action-packed. Indeed, it’s a fast-paced episode in which the characters are always on the move. It involves a lot of running and a riveting motorbike chase. This one keeps you on the edge of your seat. The danger is everywhere for the characters. Even in the middle of all that, there’s still some room for a little bit of humour, after all, we are talking about cats.
The story also explores the idea of saving people from a cat apocalypse without harming our beloved felines. And confronted with the choice of saving cats or humans, who would you save? The series knows what people usually say about this and it plays right into it. This episode concludes in an exciting way that will leave you eager to see what happens next as soon as possible.

BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE
The only flashbacks we get this time are in episode 3. They focus on Tanishi, the big muscle guy who loves cats. His scenes are so cute and proof that no matter who you are, you will fall for cats. Who doesn’t love them? Plus, since we know from the series premiere that he turns into a cat, it’s good to learn more about him before he leaves the group of survivors.
VERDICT
Nyaight of the Living Cat proves it’s one of the best anime of the Summer season. Episode 3 is a thrilling episode that builds up tension, while Episode 4 is a riveting and intense hide-and-seek that keeps the characters constantly on the move.
