MUBI Announces Ten Films To Receive Their UK Premieres At This Year's BFI London Film Festival

MUBI’s entries into this year’s BFI London Film Festival include the UK premieres of Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love and Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind.

MUBI, the film distributor, global streaming service, and production company, is proud to announce its slate of world-class auteur-led cinema headed to this year’s 69th BFI London Film Festival.

The festival will see ten UK premieres – BAFTA-winner Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love. Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind. BAFTA-nominated Akinola Davies Jr.’s directional debut, My Father’s Shadow. BAFTA-winner Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice, South Korea’s Oscar contender for International Feature. Mascha Schilinski’s German Oscar contender for International Feature, The Sound of Falling. Academy Award and BAFTA-winner László Nemes’s Orphan. Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother. Cannes Best Director-winner Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent. Palme d’Or Award-winner Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident. And Oscar-nominated Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, Norway’s Oscar contender for International Feature, which received a 19-minute standing ovation at Cannes.

Set in a remote, forgotten area in rural America, Die My Love is a portrait of a mother (Jennifer Lawrence) who struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.

Director: Jim Jarmusch

Cast: Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Vicky Krieps, Charlotte Rampling

A feature film in the form of a triptych. The three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other.

Cast: Vahid Mobasseri, Mariam Afshari, Ebrahim Azizi and Hadis Pakbaten

Vahid, an Azerbaijani auto mechanic, was once imprisoned by Iranian authorities. During his sentence, he was interrogated blindfolded. One day, a man named Eghbal enters his workshop. His prosthetic leg creaks, and Vahid thinks he recognises one of his former torturers.

MY FATHER’S SHADOW

Cast: Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Godwin Egbo and Chibuike Marvelous Egbo

The film is a semi-autobiographical tale set over the course of a single day in the Nigerian metropolis of Lagos during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis. The story follows a father, estranged from his two young sons, as they travel through the massive city while political unrest threatens their journey home.

Based on Donald E. Westlake’s novel The Ax, the story of No Other Choice follows a middle-aged man named Man-su who embarks on a determined job hunt after being unexpectedly fired from the paper company that he worked for 25 years. “If there is no opening for me, I’ll just have to get hired by creating one. I have no other choice.”

Cast: Gyorgy Bojtik, Andrea Waskovics

A young boy, after the Hungarian uprising of 1956, raised by his mother with the tale of an idealised dead father, is confronted with a brutish man who claims to be his real father.

A university professor travels from São Paulo to the seaside city of Recife during Carnival week, hoping to reunite with his son. He soon finds out he’s been tailed and spied on by neighbours in his new refuge, leaving him no possible escape from the tentacles of corruption.
