Peacemaker Season 2 is Christopher Smith's Last Ride...For Now!

Sad news, Peacemaker fans, James Gunn says there are no plans for another season of the hit DC series. But the 11th Street Kids aren’t done just yet!

After the finale of Peacemaker Season 2, Christopher Smith and the 11th Street Kids are walking off into the sunset. That’s right, DC has no plans for another season of the hit show…for now. But that doesn’t mean “Team Peacemaker” is done in the DC Universe, far from it. With the current season speeding towards its epic conclusion, James Gunn has been hitting the PR trail to talk up Peacemaker’s final salvo. However, while Gunn confirmed that there are no plans for a third season, he did offer fans of the show hope by announcing that he has plans for our beloved 11th Street Kids.

JAMES GUNN

Speaking with Collider, Gunn confirmed: “I think that people should— that doesn’t mean there aren’t plans for these characters, but it’s not necessarily Season 3 of Peacemaker. And then people should watch Episode 8 to see what happens, because maybe some of your questions will be answered in that episode by itself.”

Achieving peace is a team effort. James Gunn’s DC series returns for a second season, starring John Cena as the titular antihero. Coming soon.

THE FUTURE

Ouch! While it’s difficult to imagine a DC Universe without another season of Peacemaker, it’s exciting to hear that James Gunn has plans for the 11th Street Kids after the second season. The latest episodes have showcased John Cena’s acting abilities, allowing him to delve into the character’s emotional depth. So, like many fans, I expected this to become a springboard to bigger and better stories. That being said, with Gunn teasing a monumental finale, the sky is the limit for Christopher Smith after the season finale’s proposed radical shakeup, and that is an enticing prospect.

REVIEW

In my FOUR-STAR review of the new season, I said: “Peacemaker Season 2 is a blast. James Gunn has successfully delivered more of what made the first season so successful. It’s outrageous, gratuitous, ultra-violent, edgy, and jaw-droppingly enjoyable. The characters and their relationships are afforded more time to develop, and Gunn has laid the foundations for everything that will follow in his new DCU. Sadly, the new season isn’t without its flaws; there are a few glaring issues with the relaunch, but they take nothing away from another balls-to-the-wall season of madness. With elements of the new DCU adding their strength to an already ballsy storyline, the second season is off to a strong start, and I cannot wait to see where the last few episodes take us.” Read my full review here.

THE NEW DC UNIVERSE

Looking ahead, John Cena could really become a key player in the new DC Universe. With James Gunn already moving on to his “Man of TomorrowSuperman sequel, it makes sense that we might see Peacemaker pop up somewhere. Given his past run-ins with the Justice Gang and Lex Luthor’s shocking deal with Rick Flag Sr., it seems as if Peacemaker is taking his first steps into a larger world. So, we leave our trust with James Gunn safe in the knowledge that John Cena will be back in uniform soon…just not in Peacemaker Season 3.

Peacemaker Season 2 continues on SKY Max and NOW TV on Friday.
