The first trailer for DC Studios’ CLAYFACE has been revealed, taking fans from the streets of Gotham to the depths of body horror.
Look out, Batman fans, because DC Studios has revealed our first look at James Watkins’ CLAYFACE. The upcoming movie, based on a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, features one of Batman’s most notorious villains and promises to take the comic book genre from the streets of Gotham to the depths of body horror. The film follows a struggling actor, Matt Hagen, who turns to an experimental treatment after his face is disfigured. However, he soon learns that the too-good-to-be-true formula has transformed him into a monster.
Starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen / Clayface, alongside Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella, the film looks set to deliver the definitive DC adventure. And now, at long last, the studio has revealed the first trailer for the film. But can the fledgling DC Universe turn this body-horror film, based on Batman: The Animated Series, into a success? SYNOPSIS
“Clayface” unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.
The film also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.

What a blissfully chilling first trailer. Adapting Clayface from Batman: The Animated Series is a daunting challenge, but James Watkins appears to be pulling out all the stops to ensure the film delivers. With horror veteran Mike Flanagan writing the project, horror fans have high expectations, and based on the trailer, it seems like we have a banger on our hands.
Whether or not the film can live up to Clayface’s exploits in Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series remains to be seen. But with a wealth of talent both in front of and behind the camera, the project looks set to become something truly special. So, we’ll be first in line to see it!
