What's Opening In Cinemas This Week: Open The Toy Chest Again With Toy Story 5!

The toys escape from the toy chest again to face their biggest challenge yet as Toy Story 5 opens in UK cinemas this week.

The toys are back in town this week as Toy Story 5 makes its bow in cinemas. The film is the biggest new release of the week. With four other movies opening in screens, the race is on to grab our box office bucks and continue the summer blockbuster season.

TOY STORY 5

Walt Disney UK-Released Friday 19th June

Synopsis: Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head-to-head with a new threat to playtime.

Cast: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack

Director: Andrew Stanton

Cert: PG

We saw the film over the weekend and, while we had some issues with it, we had a blast. Our reviewer, Phil Roberts, had this to say about the film:

“Overall, Toy Story 5 is another well-executed triumph for Pixar. Although characters like Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Andy’s toys find themselves sidelined in this outing, the emotionally poignant, resonant storyline, breathtaking visuals, and emotionally charged soundtrack more than make up for any disappointment. While long-term fans of the franchise may leave disappointed by the criminal lack of screen time dedicated to their old friends, new fans will find themselves swept away by the powerful storyline and colorful characters it introduces. The film is the perfect vehicle to bring in new fans and sell another wave of merchandise that will propagate our pop culture landscape for years to come, and that is welcome to see.”

VIRGINIA WOOLF’S NIGHT & DAY

Vue Lumiere-Release date: Friday 19th June

Cert: 12A

We saw the film a few weeks back, and had some fun with it. Phil said about the film:

“Overall, Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day is a perfectly acceptable adaptation of one of the author’s most beloved books. Led brilliantly by the impressive Haley Bennett, the film is a wonderful exploration of 1900s England and the oppression of women. Tina Gharavi brings Woolf’s work to life with a seasoned hand and a wealth of documentary-filming experience, giving the project a unique, realistic quality.”
