A Man. A Plan. A Meltdown. Tom Cruise Is Digger As The First Trailer For The Upcoming Movie Shovels Its Way Out

Tom Cruise is Digger Rockwell, and John Goodman is the President Of The United States in director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s satirical black comedy, Digger. The trailer has dug itself out!

There are films that, just by watching the trailer alone, show us that they are going to be a riot. Whether they are action, comedy, animation, horror, or romance, we see we are in for a good time. However, the majority of these trailers come in the genre of satirical or black comedy. Now, we must add Digger to that long list. Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming movie. The movie is set to open on October 2nd. In fact, the film looks to be one of those movies that will have us crying with laughter. It is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. He co-wrote the film with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolás Giacobone. The movie features Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell. He plays the film’s protagonist.

As you will see from the trailer, Cruise is under a lot of prosthetic makeup to play his role as the would-be savior/ destroyer of the world. Also starring Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, Robert John Burke, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman, this could be a film that MAY just trouble the Academy Awards voting members. In addition, it could dominate the awards season completely. See what I mean by checking out the trailer below. Be warned, the trailer features strong language throughout.

THE PREMISE

The most powerful man in the world races to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.

With a premise like that, you’d be mistaken for thinking the film could be a heart-pounding thriller, the kind Cruise is famous for. Nothing could be further from the truth. This looks like the actor has simply decided to have fun. He is showing his comedy chops as he did in Tropic Thunder.

Could this finally be the film that lands the Hollywood giant and legend that much-deserved first Oscar? Is this the film that could dominate the awards season, taking home gong after gong, before taking home the big one? And can the film live up to its premise and promise of being a satirical black comedy that rivals the classic Dr. Strangelove? All eyes are on the film to see if it really can become something that will lead into awards season. If so, it could deliver those much-deserved accolades to Tom Cruise.
