“Heartstopper Forever is a deeply moving and tender film that gives fans a satisfying conclusion to the story, with a full focus on Nick and Charlie. Kit Connor and Joe Locke both deliver heartfelt and layered performances.”
After three seasons, the hit series Heartstopper is coming to an end with a film – Heartstopper Forever. The series was created and written by Alice Oseman, based on her graphic novel series of the same name. The film is also written by her and directed by Wash Westmoreland. It stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke. Anna Maxwell Martin replaces Olivia Colman as Nick’s mother. The film releases today on Netflix.
A DIFFERENT FORMAT FOR THE FINALE
The conclusion of the beloved series comes as a film rather than a final season. As a result, it doesn’t have four hours to tell its story. Even so, at 114 minutes, the film has plenty of time for its emotional beats to land. Naturally, that means certain choices had to be made, and Alice Oseman makes the right ones. Rather than trying to juggle every character’s storyline, the film keeps its focus firmly on Nick and Charlie, making the story all the more intimate. Their friends are still present, but their individual arcs take a back seat, allowing the central relationship to remain the heart of the story.

STORY
Heartstopper Forever follows Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) as Nick navigates his final year of high school. While season 3’s central focus was Charlie’s mental health, this final chapter focuses on Nick’s struggles. He’s reached a major turning point in his life: the end of high school. College lies ahead, but the uncertainty of what comes next brings his insecurities to the surface. Even though he knows what career he wants to pursue, there’s still so much uncertainty surrounding life after high school. It makes for a compelling and poignant story, one that feels deeply universal. Whether you’re living through this transition yourself or looking back on it, it’s easy to identify with Nick’s fears about the future.
This film is filled with emotional moments, taking its audience through the full spectrum of feelings. It will make you laugh, cry, and cheer, so bring the tissues — you’ll need them. There is something incredibly powerful about the storytelling and the way it effortlessly shifts from moments of pure joy to ones of genuine poignancy. It’s a deeply moving and tender film, and undoubtedly a beautiful conclusion that does justice to its characters. The story reflects on everything that came before while also looking ahead toward the future. All the things you love about the series are still here — yes, even the rugby. It wouldn’t be Heartstopper without Nick playing a rugby match, and this one carries real significance for his journey.

CAST
Unfortunately, Olivia Colman is not reprising her role as Sarah Nelson. It’s the finale, and she’s not there, which is a real shame. Colman was perfect for the role; she brought a loving, reassuring presence and truly inhabited the character. Seeing someone else take on the role isn’t easy. Anna Maxwell Martin doesn’t live up to Colman’s performance, but she had impossible shoes to fill.
Despite that casting change, it’s a joy to see the rest of the cast return one last time. It had been two years since Season 3, so it’s heartwarming to see them step back into these beloved roles. Kit Connor and Joe Locke have both grown tremendously as actors, and it’s beautiful to watch them inhabit Nick and Charlie once again. They’re our Nick and Charlie forever. Both deliver layered, deeply moving, and heartfelt performances that make this final chapter all the more emotional.

VERDICT
Heartstopper Forever is a deeply moving and tender film that gives fans a satisfying conclusion to the story, with a full focus on Nick and Charlie. Kit Connor and Joe Locke both deliver heartfelt, layered performances, making for a beautiful swan song for their characters.
