What’s Opening In Cinemas This Week: Pinocchio Gets Unstrung With Chickenhare!

This week at the cinema, we have horror with Pinocchio Unstrung, and family fun with Chickenhare And The Secret Of The Groundhog as the big new releases.
After having an almighty epic launched into cinemas last week, this week sees smaller releases make their debut on screens. For the horror fans, we have Pinocchio Unstrung, while families will get a kick out of the animated feature, Chickenhare And The Secret Of The Groundhog. Both are entertaining in their own ways, and both are worthy of the price of admission.
PINOCCHIO UNSTRUNG
Altitude Film Entertainment-Released Friday 24th July
Synopsis: A wooden doll named Pinocchio embarks on a violent crusade to carve itself into a real boy, one piece at a time.

We saw the film earlier this week and got quite a kick out of it. I said in my review:
“Pinocchio Unstrung may not have any strings to hold it down, but it does make for an entertaining, if brutal, and gory night at the cinema. I mean, come on. When a horror movie breaks the cardinal rule and brutally and bloodily kills off a child onscreen, you know what kind of territory you’re in. Watching people of varying ages get bumped off in disgustingly nasty and gory ways is actually something we’ve come to expect from films of this kind. We are not let down here. Strong stomachs are required for some of the gore, and those with a nervous disposition over anything to do with eyes should steer well clear. Those who are not need to make sure they don’t eat anything before seeing the film. Hint: you’re likely to see it again before the end.”

“Overall, Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog is a fun distraction that will appease kids of all ages. Boasting a fun narrative, bags of witty comedy, gorgeous animation, and an equally punchy soundtrack, it’s a rollercoaster ride of aimless fun that harnesses the spirit of Indiana Jones with a tone that kids can easily absorb. It may not reach the emotional heights of films like Minions & Monsters or Toy Story 5, but it never sets out to. Instead, it focuses on delivering exactly what it promises: an imaginative, action-packed adventure filled with laughs, heart, and just enough excitement to keep children glued to the screen from beginning to end.”
