A bumper week for new releases at the cinema sees six big movies open, all ready for your entertainment pleasure! Where do you start?

WOW! What a week it is at the cinema. No less than six big new releases are hitting the silver screen, just waiting for you to sit down and enjoy. For families (and big kids like myself), we have Coyote Vs Acme. For horror fans, there’s Insidious: Out Of The Further. Anyone wanting action, Jason Statham delivers Mutiny. If you want comedy, look no further than Spa Weekend and STOP! THAT! TRAIN! to give them aching sides. Or for the alternative, try Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma. Plus, with Kiki’s Delivery Service also opening, the choice is yours!

COYOTE VS ACME

Altitude Film Entertainment-Released Friday, 21st August

Synopsis: After Acme products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the Acme Corporation.

We saw the film earlier this week, and we absolutely loved it. I said in my review:

“Coyote Vs Acme is a complete riot. A brilliant comedy from start to finish, with a heartwarming climax; it’s a real Looney time at the movies. While some younger children may not get the gist of everything or understand the characters and why we are laughing so much, the rest of us will be grabbing the tissues to stem the flow of tears of laughter, holding our sides before they burst. It feels like it’s been years since the characters have been allowed to thrive and entertain us this much. Of course, we can’t help but wet ourselves laughing at those classic Wile E. Coyote moments where the traps he sets to catch Roadrunner all fail. But again, the film pulls off a masterstroke by using the same crashing sound effect we heard in those classic cartoons, dragging us back to our childhoods.”

SPA WEEKEND

Synopsis: Three friends go on a spa weekend that descends into chaos when their train-wreck friend joins.

We saw the film earlier this week, and we had fun with it. I said in my review:

“Jon Lucas and Scott Moore’s Spa Weekend sticks to the tried-and-tested formula, but still delivers an often hilarious movie for the girls. Actually, that’s not really fair. The women in the audience will have a whale of a time with the film, possibly feeling a kinship with the four female leads. The men may feel a bit out of place with the film, but they too will get a kick out of the proceedings. Instead of guns, explosions, and violence, they are in for comedy and female bonding, a crazy and hilarious golf cart chase sequence, and a lot of fun. It makes a change from the usual male-aimed fare that occupies the multiplexes on a regular basis.”

STOP! THAT! TRAIN!

Synopsis: Two stewardesses must save the day when a catastrophic storm threatens to derail a high-speed train.

Our editor, Phil Roberts, saw the film a few weeks back and had great fun with it, saying in his review:

“Overall, STOP! THAT! TRAIN! is a hilariously camp version of Airplane that throws caution to the wind and never looks back. With its lavish and outrageous antics, classic comedy throwbacks, glowing performances, and hilarious parody of modern trends, it’s a blast from start to finish. So, dust off your sequins, polish those stilettos, and climb aboard the Glamazonian Express with RuPaul, Jujubee, Ginger Minj, and the gang, because once this train leaves the station, there’s absolutely no stopping it—and trust me, you won’t want to get off!”
