Artificial Announced As A Gala For The 70th BFI London Film Festival

Luca Guadagnino directs “Artificial,” starring Andrew Garfield and Yura Borisov. The film will be featured as a gala screening at the 70th BFI London Film Festival.

Following the screening of his film, After the Hunt, at last year’s BFI London Film Festival, director Luca Guadagnino returns for the 70th BFI London Film Festival with his latest effort. Artificial is a biographical comedy-drama. It stars Andrew Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and centers on his controversial 2023 firing and rehiring. The cast also includes Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Mark Rylance, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman, Zosia Mamet, Cooper Hoffman, Chris O’Dowd, Cooper Koch, and Billie Lourd. The film will also have a gala screening at this year’s event. Guadagnino, along with writer Simon Rich and the cast, will attend the event.

THE PREMISE

“Artificial” chronicles the consequential days leading up to Sam Altman’s sudden firing and reinstatement as CEO of OpenAI, as the question of who controls the technology at the center of an AI arms race hangs in the balance.

The 70th BFI London Film Festival will run from Wednesday, October 7, to Sunday, October 18, 2026. Tickets will be available for the public starting September 17, and BFI Members will have the opportunity to book their tickets earlier.
