Stephen King is the undisputed master of suspense, and while we all have our favorite King story, few of his legendary tales feel quite as hauntingly relatable as Carrie. The story of Carrie White’s brutal high-school torment and the terrifying awakening of her telekinetic powers has become the stuff of horror legend. The novel was a bestseller, Brian De Palma’s movie became a cult phenomenon, and Carrie’s story has terrified generations of fans. Now, Mike Flanagan and Prime Video are inviting us back to high school for another dose of supernatural terror.
Today, the streamer has unveiled our first look at its brand-new eight-episode series, promising to take King’s iconic tale and give it a contemporary makeover while retaining the dark heart of the original story. Written and executive produced by legendary filmmaker Mike Flanagan, the series looks set to become one of Prime Video’s must-see horror events this autumn.

THE SERIES
Based on Stephen King’s iconic debut novel, Carrie is a bold, timely, and surprising reinvention of the classic coming‑of‑age story, adapted as a television series for the first time by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan. The series follows misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) who has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.
Carrie is written and executive produced by showrunner Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House), with Stephen King also serving as executive producer. Flanagan directed Episodes 101, 102, 107 and 108, while Episodes 103, 104, 105 and 106 are directed by Kate Siegel (The Exorcist: Martyrs), Axelle Carolyn (Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen), Kyra Sedgwick (Family Movie) and Hiromi Kamata (Shogun), respectively. The series is an Amazon MGM Studios production.

Carrie stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, cast in the legendary titular role following an extensive search that saw nearly 1,500 actors read. The ensemble’s series regulars include Samantha Sloyan (The Pitt) as Margaret White, Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton (Fire Country) as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette (My Life with the Walter Boys) as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah (The Buccaneers) as Tina, Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) as Billy, Thalia Dudek (The Running Man) as Emaline, Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard (Man of Tomorrow) as Principal Grayle.
Carrie’s decorated ensemble also brings together longtime Flanagan collaborators and newcomers to his creative circle, with recurring guest stars including Michael Trucco (Fire Country), Crystal Balint (The Fall of the House of Usher), Kate Siegel (The Haunting of Hill House), Rahul Kohli (We Were Liars), Tim Bagley (The Comeback), and Heather Graham (The White Lotus).

As Carrie heads towards an uncertain future, the ominous glow of flames fills the background, offering a chilling glimpse of the destruction that awaits. I’ll be honest, I’m usually pretty against messing with classic titles, but Mike Flanagan might just be changing my mind here. Everything we’ve seen so far makes this new take on Carrie look seriously impressive. The modern updates and contemporary school setting fit the story surprisingly well, giving this legendary tale a fresh perspective while keeping plenty of that unsettling King magic intact.
Throw in a fantastic cast, some real depth to the story, and some seriously impressive production values, and this could be a real winner. And the timing couldn’t be better. With the series arriving in early October, it’s the perfect show for those chilly autumn nights and an ideal warm-up for the avalanche of Halloween horror heading our way.
So, mark the new term in your calendar, because this is one trip back to high school you definitely won’t want to miss!
