Asa Germann Cast as Warren Worthington's Archangel in Marvel Studios' X-Men

Asa Germann Joins the MCU as Warren Worthington III/Archangel in Marvel Studios’ X-Men!

Look out, X-Men fans, because the cast of Marvel Studios’ X-Men relaunch just took to the skies! After casting Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Kevin Feige has raided the campus at Gen V. And after narrowly missing out on the role of Scott Summers/Cyclops, Asa Germann has officially joined the cast as Warren Worthington III, aka Angel.

Sources close to production say Kevin Feige and the team were so impressed with Germann’s screen test that they offered him the role of Archangel. In the comics, Worthington is one of the original X-Men’s founding members, but his journey takes a much darker turn when he is transformed into one of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse. That tragic evolution has made him a firm favorite among generations of X-Men fans, and Germann could be perfectly placed to bring that complexity to the MCU.

ARCHANGEL

The character has appeared on the big screen twice before, played by Ben Foster in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and Ben Hardy in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Sadly, neither film gave him the narrative space to truly explore the character’s depths. Hopefully, this new iteration will allow Worthington to flex his wings and grow into the tragic hero we know and love.

The original X-Men animated series explored his tragic backstory, and that legacy has continued into X-Men ’97. So, if Marvel commits to treating Worthington as a main-event player rather than a background character, fans could finally see Archangel fleshed out in all his glory. And with the MCU’s X-Men assembling a seriously impressive roster, the prospect of watching Warren Worthington take flight—and eventually fall—is one we cannot wait to see.

If you thought the X-Men roster was complete, think again! At Disney’s D23 Expo, Kevin Feige confirmed that casting is still very much underway, with plenty of major roles yet to be filled. That means even more mutants could be stepping out of the shadows in the coming weeks and months. And with a May 5, 2028 release date locked in, Marvel has plenty of time to assemble this extraordinary new team. And that is damn exciting!

The X-Men will officially unleash their X-Factor in cinemas on May 5, 2028.
