After last weekend’s incredible event, It has been announced that National Cinema Weekend delivered 1.54 Million admissions. Did you join in?
This September, National Cinema Day returned as the expanded National Cinema Weekend, bringing together more than 550 cinemas across the UK to encourage audiences to rediscover the joy of the big screen.
With 1.54 million admissions across cinemas nationwide, National Cinema Weekend built on the momentum of the cinema sector by championing the power of cinema. It also created excitement by bringing audiences together. Additionally, the event introduced new audiences to the magic of a shared cinema experience. Organizers asked, “Who Will You Take?”
Designed to encourage people out of their homes and back into cinemas, eight in ten attendees agreed that the two-day cinema celebration reminded them of what is special about going to the cinema, demonstrating how National Cinema Weekend worked to promote the value and joy in the shared cinematic experience, whilst contributing to the continued box office momentum in 2026.
A DIVERSE AUDIENCE
Cinemas attracted a diverse audience, including regulars and first-time moviegoers, with one in four attendees aged 16-24. The £4 ticket offer was particularly popular amongst families, with 74% saying this offer was generous in their decision to attend.
Audience research across the two days showed that 40% of attendees would not have visited the cinema that weekend if the National Cinema Weekend event had not taken place. This demonstrates its ability to drive additional cinema attendance. Furthermore, it re-engaged audiences with its £4 tickets.
BUSY SCREENINGS AND FULL AUDITORIUMS
Venues across the UK reported busy screenings and full auditoriums throughout the weekend, proving the nationwide initiative’s success. National Cinema Weekend is poised to create long-term value, as 29% of attendees plan to increase their visits to the cinema.
