Matt-Smith-Joins-the-Cast-Of-Star Wars-Episode-IX

The Eleventh Doctor to join Daisy Ridley in J.J Abrams’s conclusion to the sequel saga.

With production on Star Wars: Episode IX well underway and the cast list already announced for J.J Abrams’ conclusion to the sequel saga, one can be forgiven for assuming the casting surprises were over, but you’d be dead wrong. In the aftermath of Dominic Monaghan‘s rumoured involvement in the project, Variety is reporting that Doctor Who legend Matt Smith has joined the cast and will assume a major role in Episode IX.

Variety Report:

Sources tell Variety that “The Crown” star Matt Smith is joining “Star Wars: Episode IX,” which is currently in production in the U.K. It’s unknown at this time whether the “Doctor Who” alum will be on the side of the rebels or the evil empire.

Smith joins returning cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver, as well as newcomers Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, and Naomi Ackie. Billy Dee Williams is reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, and Carrie Fisher will be featured as Leia Organa in the final instalment of the Skywalker saga, using previously unreleased footage shot for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Fisher died in December 2016 at the age of 60.

Mark Hamill will be returning as Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels will reprise his role at C-3PO.

If these rumours are proven to be accurate, J.J Abrams is amassing an abundance of fantastic acting talent to bring Episode IX home and restore balance to the Force. The fans have been left in a state of disillusionment in the wake of Rian Johnson’s divisive sequel, The Last Jedi and we are all hoping for a long overdue reunification when Star Wars: Episode IX arrives on our screens next December.

Exciting times in the galaxy far, far away…
