The 5 Reasons Why Captain Marvel Is the Perfect First Marvel Movie of 2019

Annlyel explores why Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is the perfect curtain raiser to Marvel’s cinematic calendar

Captain Marvel‘s arrival to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been long overdue…but she couldn’t have come at a better time. With a second trailer recently dropping, wowing fans around the world with its enticing imagery, my excitement for this film just continues to grow. And with it participating as an opening act of sorts before the grand event we’ve all been waiting for (Avengers: EndGame) this film is being set up to be something truly special. So, here are 5 reasons why Captain Marvel is the perfect first Marvel movie of next year.

1. Captain Marvel Herself

Captain Marvel is supposedly a very important Marvel character and yet it has taken over ten years for her to finally arrive in the MCU, which seems a tad bit ridiculous when you consider lesser known characters like Ant-Man have been given standalone films before her. But, better late than never, and this can appropriately be said about Captain Marvel.

The Secrecy Surrounding Captain Marvel Hints at the Film's Greatness

For years she has been missing, a powerful heroine with abilities unparalleled, but why has she been absent? Why has it taken this long for her to return to save the day? Her movie will hopefully elaborate on why.

2. Nick Fury

Nick Fury is a vastly mysterious character who has been on many adventures and seen many things. Captain Marvel is going to help clear up a bit of that mystery and if he potentially plays a larger role moving forward in the MCU (he’s supposed to play a role in Spider-Man: Far from Home as well) this movie will undoubtedly help introduce him in a greater light heading into Avengers: EndGame.

3. It’s Timeline

The MCU has stretched through many different timelines; the 40s’, 80s’, the 2000’s, our decade now, but never the 90s’. The 90s’ is a vast stretch of time that has been untampered with and that gives the writers a chance to tell a contained story with no outside distractions from other franchises or heroes (like Black Panther and Ant-Man and the Wasp.)

4. It’s Implications for the Future

While the movie will undoubtedly focus on Carol Danvers and her story I’m sure there will be plenty of Easter Eggs to explore and discover that’ll reveal some fascinating hints for the MCU’s future, especially that Avengers: EndGame will be a finale of sorts. And with the Skrulls making an appearance in this film Captain Marvel may very well be setting up the Secret Invasion storyline where the Skrulls infiltrate the world to the point of all-out war.

5. The Mind-Blowing Action

One of the reasons why these movies in the MCU are so enjoyable is because the action scenes can be, at times, out of this world phenomenal. Take Avengers: Infinity War for example. It’s partly my favorite installment in the MCU thus far because the action scenes are so well crafted and imaginatively designed. The character interactions are exciting, the heroes’ strengths are exciting to observe, and the action scenes are simply awesome.

To get us pumped for Avengers: EndGame (which will undoubtedly contain some jaw-dropping action scenes) is Captain Marvel, a film focusing on a character who can fight in space! How incredible is that?! Captain Marvel is a very powerful character and her exhilarating action scenes are going to be an exciting warmup for the big event at hand.

So, these are the 5 reasons why I believe Captain Marvel is the perfect Marvel film to start the year off. 2019 is going to be a jam-packed year when it comes to movies and I am ready for the ride.
