Annlyel reveals her defining moments from the Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker teaser trailer
Oh my goodness. Was this trailer worth the wait or what? I knew it was going to be good because…come on, all Star Wars teasers are good. But I didn’t know it was going to be THAT good. This teaser makes me cry every time I see it and I’ve seen it now, maybe ten times (and there are many more viewings to come.) This trailer has it all. Our favorite characters, an epic narration, action, new planets, but, of course, there was that ending. That jaw-dropping moment. The moment that left all Star Wars fans destroyed in an instant. I’ll get to this exhilarating moment a little later but, yeah, it was definitely…stunning.
So, on that note, here are the five best moments from the trailer.
1. THAT FLIP?!
I am a Rey fan. I have been for a very long time. But this trailer just reaffirmed my love for her in a very big way. I loved that the trailer started with her and Kylo Ren because they are the most important characters in the trilogy.
As she started running from the TIE fighter which seems to clearly be piloted by Kylo Ren (of course, we won’t know for sure until we watch the movie) I kept thinking to myself, “No, she isn’t going to backflip over this TIE fighter? No, she isn’t going to backflip over this TIE fighter? She just backflipped over the TIE Fighter!!!!”
It was a jaw-dropping moment that helped elevate the teaser to awesome status.
2. Kylo Ren In Action
I also love Kylo Ren so seeing him kicking butt alongside his fellow stormtroopers as the new Supreme Leader is exciting in itself.
3. Lando Is Back!
We knew we’d see Lando in this teaser and this was definitely rewarding. Seeing him back in the piloting seat of the Millennium Falcon was also very exciting, especially considering that it is, really, his ship. Lando and Chewbacca, together again! Wow.
4. Leia Returns! Wow!
It was said that Carrie Fisher would make a powerful appearance in this movie but I didn’t know how they were going to fit her into this story or how it was going to look. To see that not only is she in this movie but that she is so perfectly woven into this film is just…wow. I am so crying inside while I write this.
5. Finn and Poe Together Again
Finn and Poe’s friendship is one of the highlights of the trilogy that hasn’t been able to be fleshed out as much as I would love to see but it definitely seems that we’ll have more time with them together in this film and I am very happy to see that. Let the bromance commence.
6. Is That…the Death Star?
The trailer only gets better and better with every second but that final shot that shows Rey, Finn, and Poe looking off to some strange structure in the distance? Is it just me or does that look like a chunk of the Death Star? And if it is the Death Star how can this be? Wasn’t it destroyed? I mean, if I’m not mistaken, I saw it explode into a fireball of sparks in both A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Either this is the unfinished section of the Death Star that was never placed onto the Death Star in Return of the Jedi or it’s literally a fallen chunk of one of the original Death Stars. Whatever the case, it’s kind of cool.
(J.J Abrams couldn’t keep the Death Star out of this movie could he? Lol.)
7. That Moment
And last but not least, that moment. The moment that made me gasp. The moment that made the tears flowing out of my eyes retreat back into my face (not literally) from pure shock. The moment that I could’ve never expected and yet felt so perfect at the same time. And of course, that moment belonged to Palpatine’s instantly iconic return for The Rise of Skywalker.
When I heard that chilling cackle I lost it! ABSOLUTELY LOST IT! I never saw it coming, which made the surprise all the more explosive. This is what teasers are about. This is what Star Wars needed to bring fans back into this story with the clear notion that there are actual stakes in this movie, ’cause if Palpatine is coming back…that’s bad. Very, very bad.
I mean, think about it. What horrifying plan has he concocted? We know Palpatine is patient. Why would he return now? Is he somehow connected to Rey in some form or another and is now ready to turn her into his ultimate ally? Did he somehow influence Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, the grandson of his former pupil, Darth Vader, on the journey that he has partaken and now with Snoke gone is ready to become Kylo Ren’s new master?
There are so many implications to what Palpatine’s return could mean but for now, I’m just going to revel in the fact that he is back and that this trailer is so, freaking, amazing!
May the Force be with you all.
