The Awe-Inspiring New Trailer for Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has Arrived

Fresh off the back of a wonderfully insightful panel at MCM Comic Con this past weekend, legendary fantasy illustrator Brian Froud’s incredible vision of The Dark Crystal has been revealed through the first teaser trailer for the brand-new Netflix series Age of Resistance.
The series has been conceptualised using the traditional puppeteering methods of the Jim Henson creature shop, but the addition of contemporary CGI effects has opened the doorway to an incredible visual spectacle which we can a look forward to enjoying on August 30th.
Brian Froud has promised fans that the series will not be over-reliant on the usage of computer-generated effects and elaborated on his disapproval of CGI in general. He went on to say that CGI, despite being a wonderful tool to enhance some images left animated characters looking far less realistic than traditional puppeteering methods and that he couldn’t hide his excitement at Netflix’s wishes to restore the art of puppetry for the series.
The new series will boast ten episodes and will explore the world of Thra created for the original movie. Written by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, and Javier Grillo-Marxuach with Louis Leterrier serving as director. Here’s the plot:
Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

I am super excited about this new series. This past weekend at MCM Comic Con, Brian Froud was gracious enough to elaborate on what we can expect from the new series and his excitement for the project was infectious. As a fan of the original movie, I am chomping at the bit to return to the mystical world of Thra, and with Froud on hand to sprinkle a touch of magic over proceedings, I am more than ready to be whisked away on another whimsical adventure.
