Black Series Review | Doctor Aphra (Star Wars: Doctor Aphra)

Thomas has a confrontation with Doctor Aphra from Hasbro’s Black Series 6” collection

Doctor Aphra, along with her assassin droid companions, 0-0-0 and BT-1 fulfilled several missions for Darth Vader before falling out of his favour, and after faking her own death, continued to roam the galaxy with the two droids.

This second Black Series wave of 2019 is giving us our very first figures from the canon comics and it’s quite a great selection – Doctor Apra, BT-1 and 0-0-0!

I was very apprehensive of this figure because of the way they would depict her. Aphra is an Asian character but depending on who’s drawing her in the comics, sometimes she felt more White than Asian. So it was very important to me that Hasbro got her right, she is the first Asian and LGBT character who is a lead character in Star Wars, that’s something to celebrate, yes it’s in comics but still, that’s diversity! And Hasbro didn’t disappoint me, they got her right! They captured the spirit of the character and turned it in a realistic design. This head sculpt is amazing!

The figure comes with a blaster pistol and a removable helmet, both accessories have good paint apps and are detailed. The outfit also has good paint apps and seems to be accurate to what it is in the comics, they even got her electronic tattoos right! In terms of articulation, she has a midsection articulation that is present on Marvel Legends figures but that hadn’t been seen yet on the Black Series. She has 19 points of articulation.

Final Thoughts:

An amazing figure and one of the best this year for the Black Series line! More comics figures, please!
