The Mandalorian | Jon Favreau Already Writing Season 2

Favreau confirms Season 2 is running at full steam ahead and is utilising the same “Epic Game Engine” as The Lion King to render visual effects quicker

With the press tour for The Lion King in full swing and with Lucasfilm headed to Disney’s D23 Expo to unveil new material from The Mandalorian, it was only a matter of time before the subject matter crossed paths. What the two projects have in common is one man. Jon Favreau.

The screen legend and all-around superhero is currently promoting his latest visual spectacular and during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Favreau was quizzed on the status of The Mandalorian and he revealed some juicy details about not just the first season, but also the status of season two! Check out the video below:

“It’s about a bounty hunter, it’s after Return of the Jedi. The Empire is gone, and all hell is breaking loose on the outer rim. It’s about the scum and villainy now that…once you take out the rule of law what happens is chaos takes over.”

Much like with The Lion King, Favreau and his effects team are utilizing ground-breaking VR technology and the Epic game engine to map out the environments and use “real-time in-camera visual effects,” all so that they can get the hefty amount of visual effects work done efficiently on a TV show schedule (via Collider).

This is exciting news. Favreau is a bonafide Star Wars aficionado and knows exactly what the fans want to see and the idea of The Mandalorian season 2 already entering into production is an enticing prospect. Plus, Favreau’s Boba Fett socks are just awesome!

The future is looking glorious for Star Wars fans.

The Mandalorian season one debuts on Disney+ on November 12th.
