Disney Casts Newcomer Imon Vellani As Ms. Marvel

The house of mouse has finally found its Kamala Khan

After what has seemed like an eternity, Disney has finally cast its Kamala Khan for the upcoming  Ms. Marvel Disney+ series. Deadline is reporting that the house of mouse has tapped newcomer Imon Vellani to become the iconic Marvel superhero and lead the all-new series coming from Marvel Studios.

Ms Marvel

The series which is set to be helmed by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon is one of the streamers’ most hotly anticipated properties with the character already having the luxury of being a huge fan favorite.

Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, first burst onto the comic book scene in 2014 thanks to Marvel editor Sana Amanat, writer G. Willow Wilson, and artist Adrian Alphona.  The character is renowned as being a Pakistani-American teenager who is bestowed with Inhuman powers. Amongst her many impressive super-powers, Khan is capable of altering her size and recovering from almost any battle wound – a fact that has resonated with millions of adoring fans from around the world.

Although Vellani is a relatively fresh face, she has already been recognized by the 2019 Toronto Film Festival – but the move to Disney+ marks a major step up into the big time!

This is awesome news. Despite being an avid Marvel reader, I am yet to have my first introduction to Ms. Marvel – therefore my relationship with the character is somewhat limited. However, many of our writers adore the character and speak highly of her – so I am down with Kamala Khan suiting up in the MCU. And with WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looming on the horizon, the future of the MCU on Disney+ looks very bright indeed!
