This sleek new vessel is a serious upgrade from the original constellation class. And that is by design. The Cruiser needs to be able to withstand a pounding. Especially when launching into battle against insurmountable odds.

The class sacrificed armor in favor of armaments. And because its armor is far weaker than some of the other vessels in the fleet, the hull has been upgraded with armored shutters. The shutters were designed to protect the warp nacelles and exterior hull viewports from photon torpedo damage. Plus, the Battlecruiser is compatible with Federation model cloaking devices – should the Captain wish to incorporate it.

The Avenger-class Federation Battlecruiser is an agile vessel available to Starfleet players in Star Trek Online. It was intended to compete with the smaller, more nimble vessels fielded by the Klingon Defense Force. Intended primarily for war rather than exploration, the Avenger-class sparked a minor arms race on its debut.

Heavily armed compared to peer ships in its weight class, the Avenger suffered when it came to hull armor. Instead, it had to focus on eliminating opposition using its unique autonomous weapons system.
