Max takes a look back to the glory days of Star Wars Insider and shares his hopes for the continued publication of original fiction
I know it’s best to not look a gift horse in the mouth, but Christopher Cooper, editor of Star Wars Insider has said that the re-invigorated original fiction in insider will continue until 2022.
He did say “we’ll see” with the magazine extending this past 2022, but I have a bad feeling that it might not happen. Insider stopped the original fiction shortly after the Great Legends Purge, and I was one of the many fans who were disappointed. Insider was most loved for the fact it had original fiction, and when it left, Insider lost a lot of interest for me. Sure, they have cool interviews but it’s not the same as reading a story.

The old days would have stories that would preface whatever novel would come out and it was like a fun advertisement for various novels. I think Insider should start publishing stories indefinitely, at least every other issue, and allowing budding writers like myself to break into Star Wars with these (what one of the professors calls) low-risk writings.
