The Marvel Studios Blade reboot has found its director as Bassam Tariq takes the helm of Mahershala Ali’s MCU debut
It’s all go in the Marvel Universe because Bassam Tariq has been tapped to direct Blade For Marvel Studios. The visionary director made his feature directorial debut with last year’s Mogul Mowgli. And following its success, his visionary style has caught the eye of Kevin Feige.
MARVEL STUDIOS
Initial reports suggested that Marvel was looking for a writer/director to pull double-duty. But Deadline reports that the studio has had a change of heart and will now split the roles. Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchman) will pen the screenplay, with Tariq now positioned at the helm. Deadline reports:
Since (Osei-Kuffour’s) hiring, Marvel shortened its list of possible director choices and started another round meetings that started in March and went through June. Those that made the final cut met and delivered their final presentations over that time, and in the end it was Tariq’s vision that ultimately won all parties over.
PRODUCTION
Tariq will now have the best part of a year to prepare himself for the mainstream. Marvel’s blockbuster will start production in July 2022, and Mahershala Ali has already signed to play the title character. However, Marvel has plenty of wiggle room due to them failing to announce any definitive release date.
What do you make of Bassam Tariq’s appointment? Is he the right director for the job? Leave a comment below. We love hearing from you.
