It’s the figure we all wanted, and the figure we thought we’d never get; it’s Judith Hoag‘s iconic TMNT 1990 April O’Neil from NECA Toys. But thankfully, the official release date is finally drawing near and our excitement is going through the roof. And with the recent unveiling of the Ultimate Casey Jones figure, NECA’s TMNT 1990 collection is almost complete. Almost. I’m still hoping for Tatsu!
But as the clock ticks down to release, the timing couldn’t be better to explore the creative process behind the figure. And to discover what it took to bring this action figure holy grail to collectors everywhere. Thankfully, NECA has us covered. The toy giant has released a series of videos detailing the creative process. And what’s more, the mini-series has a very special guest host. The unconquerable Judith Hoag.
THE FIGURE
As expected, the four-part series culminates with our first look at the finished article and the revelation that there will be two variants available. There will be an Ultimate 7″ Scale figure and a Signature Edition Ultimate 7″ Scale figure. With the Signature Edition, collectors get the classic style yellow coat from the film, and an April O’Neil press pass, which has been hand-signed by Judith Hoag. The Signature Edition will be limited to just 2,000 pieces. But don’t take my word for it. Grab yourself a slice and hit play!

Sadly, as of press time, the Signature Edition has long since sold out at the official NECA Store. But thankfully, our friends at Zavvi UK are still offering pre-orders on the standard edition. And Zavvi’s USA outlet also has pre-orders available. But again, only for the standard edition.
That being said, this figure looks exceptional and is one of the final pieces of the TMNT 1990 NECA puzzle. Congratulations to the lucky 2,000 fans who bagged the Signature Edition because you’ve got yourself a jewel in the crown of the collection. And commiserations to the rest of us! Myself included. But with Casey Jones (Unmasked), the Shadow Warriors twin-pack, and Danny Pennington (Loot Crate) all headed our way in the coming months, there has never been a better time to be a TMNT collector.
