Max explores the pressure mounting on The Book Of Boba Fett to be the series the fans all hope it to be!
The Book of Boba Fett premieres December 29th, 2021, and is sort of a Christmas present for a dark COVID-filled world. This is the second Star Wars streaming show. And after the success of The Mandalorian, many fans feel like they are in a good place.
The Book Of Boba Fett is being written and produced by the GENIUS Jon Favreau. The visuals all look good, the actors have proven to be excellent and the potential for a wide arcing story is all there. So why be worried? We worry because The Mandalorian was an unknown and had nothing to lose. If it was no good; Disney would re-focus back on movies. They would never give up on the franchise since they spent billions to acquire it. Even if it proved to not be as popular.
SUCCESS & FAILURE
The Book of Boba Fett is a dare for Disney. “You struck gold with the Mandalorian. I bet you can’t do it again”. With the success of The Mandalorian under their belt, there is more pressure than ever for Boba to succeed. Because I feel its success will determine whether Stream Wars will continue. Sure Andor and Kenobi are already in the pipeline, but failing with such a legendary character may cause Disney to rethink its strategy. Also if Favreau’s show fails and then lesser mortals create even worse shows, Disney will be too afraid to dive into the abyss again.
When Solo tanked, they switched to TV because they were angry it was a major setback (monetarily). And at the end of the day, it’s all about the money. I have a good feeling that Boba Fett will be comparable to the quality of The Mandalorian since Favreau didn’t just do a good job; he did a GREAT job. But the universe is a fickle creature. Anything and everything can happen. It’s like a sports game. Sometimes the team loses due to many interlacing mistakes that cannot be prevented. Maybe people don’t want to see more Boba. Maybe the plot will be too similar to Mando. Maybe the concept of building a criminal empire will turn out to be more boring than it sounds. Nobody knows.
It isn’t prudent to be a pessimist but fans need to prepare themselves for every scenario. A lot is riding on this show. We need it to be good so they will continue to churn out many more shows for decades to come. Let’s cross our lightsabers and hope the Force is with us.
The Book Of Boba Fett premieres on December 29. Only on Disney+.
