Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most iconic characters in Star Wars and that means he needs a theme equally as iconic. John Williams returns!
John Williams is returning to the galaxy far, far away…
When Disney bought Star Wars in 2013 I was definitely a bit worried. Would this story that I love so much be tarnished? Would they understand the very soul of Star Wars? Thankfully, nine years later, I can definitively say Disney has added layers to this franchise that I can appreciate. Now we’re finally getting the continuation of Obi-Wan’s story set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope! It’s a dream come true, honestly. But now it feels like the series has been cemented in glory thanks to a wonderful new addition.
John Williams is synonymous with Star Wars. When that crawl first appeared on screens in 1977 it was Williams’ awe-inspiring score blasting back at them; promising moviegoers a ride they would never forget. His scores throughout the Skywalker Saga were not only impressive but iconic. He made the sound of Star Wars. And it was his brain that helped propel this franchise into the magical thing it has become.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most iconic characters in Star Wars and that means he needs a theme equally as iconic. Michael Giacchino and Ludwig Goransson have done great jobs composing unique sounds for the franchise but their works surrounded characters’ stories far removed from the ones in the Skywalker saga. Rogue One was about a band of rebels we had no previous knowledge of fighting to take down the Empire. And The Mandalorian is about a bounty hunter and his adventures through the galaxy with his child, Grogu.
John Williams is going to add the necessary power and mystique to Kenobi’s theme that, I have a feeling, is going to blow our minds. I can’t wait to see what Star Wars has in store for us!
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney Plus on May 25.
