Mads Mikkelsen has opened up about Indy 5 and says the final Indiana Jones adventure is dense and epic!
After his masterful spell in the Wizarding World, Mads Mikkelsen is turning back the clock to join the cast of the fifth and final Indiana Jones adventure. And in doing so will cement his status as one of a select few to appear in both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. Until now, the nature of his role in the sequel has been a closely guarded secret. Those pesky NDA’s know no bounds.
But now, thanks to a fresh interview with The Hollywood Reporter; the actor touched upon his role in the film and went as far as to talk about the old-school feel of the movie. Even going as far as to compare it to a Speilberg movie. High praise indeed! Check out the excerpt below.
“[Raiders of the Lost Ark] was one of my favorite films, and it just oozed that golden period of serials from the 1940s — and that’s in the fifth film as well,” he says. “They’re going heavily back to the first and second film and getting that original feel, the original Indy, something dense and epic.”
James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari) has taken over directing duties from Steven Spielberg, who remains on board as an executive producer. “It felt like a Spielberg film, though it’s obviously James making it with the same vision,” Mikkelsen says. Harrison Ford, who’s pushing 80, returns as the iconic adventurer.
Asked how Ford was holding up following reports that he injured his shoulder on set, Mikkelsen says he was impressed with his co-star’s physicality. “It was the first time I met him, and he’s an insanely powerful person,” he says. “Not just as an actor, but physically. I remember the first day we were shooting, it was a night shoot, then we stopped at 5 a.m. — and then he got on his mountain bike and went biking for 50 kilometers [31 miles]. Harrison is a monster of a man, a very nice monster.”
THE BAD GUY?
At any rate, when you sign a major talent like Made Mikkelsen you can pretty much assume he’ll be playing the baddie of the movie. After all, Mads does play one helluva villain. And with rumors swirling suggesting that this movie will lean heavily into Indy’s past; perhaps Mads will have a bigger role than first reported. Maybe even a connection to the Jones family? Either way, the hunt for fortune and glory looks like it’s taking a turn for the better. And that will be music to the ears of fans everywhere.
The currently untitled Indiana Jones 5 will continue the search for fortune and glory in June 2023.
