Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi clash on the superb new promo art for the upcoming Disney Plus series
With the clock ticking down to the release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney Plus, the marketing campaign is kicking off in earnest. We’ve seen trailers; sneak peeks, and posters, but until now the marketing side of things has been largely absent from the build-up. Until now.
THE POWER OF MARKETING
Finally spotted in the wild, we now have our first look at some of the long-awaited artwork from the series. And it easily heightens the expectations for the long-awaited rematch between Kenobi and Darth Vader. Moreover, the artwork is easily some of the best we’ve seen for a Disney Plus show. But don’t take my word for it. Say hello there to the awesome art below:
ARTWORK
Without getting too schmaltzy, this artwork is sensational and easily recalls the style of the Revenge Of The Sith marketing art of 2005. It has been designed to trigger our nostalgia for the duo’s last encounter, and for all intents and purposes, it succeeds effortlessly. When announcing the show, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy promised fans the mother of all rematches between Vader and his former mentor. And it is most welcome to see the promo art hyping the encounter with such vigor.
The art was initially spotted in the wild by an unknown fan, at, of all places, a retailer. The retailer is also a mystery. But thanks to the magic of the internet, the image has been shared from here to Alderaan. Check it out below:
As mentioned above, the identity of the originator of this awesome pic is a mystery. So, if any of our beloved readers learn the identity of this legendary fan, please give us the heads up so we can give them the credit they rightly deserve.
ACTION FIGURES?
Given the “Hasbro” like quality of this superb artwork, could this mean we can look forward to a brand new collection of Kenobi-inspired action figures? Maybe a return to the classic 3.75″ figures of yesteryear? We certainly hope so, And with May 4th heading our way in the next few weeks, we may be in store for a few juicy surprises on Star Wars Day. And that alone is enough to have our excitement reaching fever pitch.
