Paul Rudd Joins Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters Sequel

Strap on your proton packs because those pesky ghosts will be haunting cinemas next Christmas in the Ghostbusters Afterlife sequel

The sequel to Ghostbusters Afterlife is heading our way sooner than expected. After Jason Reitman officially announced his hotly-anticipated sequel on Ghostbusters Day; Sony shocked us all by revealing that the sequel (Codename FIREHOUSE) will be blasting into cinemas NEXT Christmas. The sequel will follow the adventures of the Spengler family as they return to New York to defend the city from another horde of supernatural threats.

Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard; Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim are all expected to return. As is franchise legend Ernie Hudson who will reprise his role as Winston Zeddemore. Fellow Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd has expressed interest in returning as Ray Stantz, but Bill Murray’s intentions towards the franchise are still a mystery. But this is a massive win for the long-suffering Ghostbusters fans who waited over three decades for another outing with the superstars of the supernatural.

Despite a few unfavorable reviews, (not from us); Ghostbusters Afterlife went on to become a global smash, raking in over $204M against a budget of $75M. So it’s no surprise that the studio would fast-track the sequel. And now, with a release date of December 20, 2023 pencilled in, fans of the franchise can finally start to look forward to new adventures. And that alone is enough to have us celebrating with a box of Twinkies!

Jason Reitman returns to the directorial hot seat and will pull double duties as co-writer alongside Afterlife scribe Gil Kenan. And both will oversee several other newly announced Ghostbusters projects including Games, Comics, and a new Netflix animated series. So there has never been a better time to be a Ghostbusters fan.

Sadly, any further information about the sequel is currently under wraps at Sony. And known to only a select few. But with the movie heading our way at record speed, production appears to be moving well. So let’s hope for some more news soon. But as always, as soon as we hear more, we’ll update the site. You’ll never miss a thing with Future of the Force.
