'The Rings of Power' Cements Itself as a Series Worth Investing In

“I have a feeling, by the time we reach the fifth and final season, The Rings of Power will be regarded as highly as, if not more so, than the movies and that might be the biggest compliment I can offer this show,” says Annlyel James

What makes a great show? There are a lot of elements that culminate into a series going from being good to downright iconic. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is not iconic by any stretch of the imagination. But the series finale has set the stage for its potential to become that just down the road. After last week’s somewhat underwhelming penultimate episode, my enthusiasm for the series and its potential to end solidly was pretty low. And then the episode began and all of my worries melted away.

The hour-long finale was nothing short of mesmerizing, each scene more riveting than the last. And the moment we had been awaiting the entire series, the Sauron reveal turned out to be far better than I could’ve ever imagined.

AN EMOTIONAL FINALE?

One thing that I’ve grown to associate with my enjoyment of watching anything that has to do with Middle-Earth is crying. It doesn’t have to be full-on sobbing. But if one of these stories can bring tears to my eyes I know that it has affected me to the point of some sort of enjoyment. I am happy to admit that The Rings of Power finale made me cry on three different occasions. Which was something I wasn’t expecting.

The amount of emotion and nostalgia poured into this finale made me remember my love for this world. And how it has affected me since my childhood. There is something so undeniably magical about these stories and this finale captured that essence. It was undoubtedly my favorite episode of the season and that is saying something considering how much I enjoyed the sixth episode.

STICKING THE LANDING

For this series to be successful this finale had to stick the landing and it did so with flying colors. I couldn’t be more excited to see the story continue in the second season. And for Sauron to get an even bigger spotlight moving forward. I have a feeling, by the time we reach the fifth and final season, The Rings of Power will be regarded as highly as, if not more so, than the movies. And that might be the biggest compliment I can offer this show.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power is streaming exclusively on Prime Video now.
