Netflix gets in the festive spirit with a glorious new poster for Vikings Valhalla Season 2 – coming to Netflix on January 12th
We are just days away from kicking off the Christmas festivities, but Netflix is starting early this year. Ahead of its release in the New Year, the streamer has dropped a Norse-inspired festive message along with an an-all new poster for Vikings Valhalla Season 2. The series hit the high notes during its first season with its relentless bloodletting and visceral battle action. And with the season finale ending on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, fans of the show have been yearning to discover the fate of Kattegat and its band of fearless warriors.
Although the new poster fails to hint at where the adventure will take us next, the glorious one-sheet features the brave trio Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), the most famous Viking explorer in history; his strong-willed sister, Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson); and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), the ambitious prince of Norway. And all three are ready for battle! Check out the poster below. As well as the Viking-inspired festive message.
And if that isn’t enough to have you charting your course for Norse mythology, check out the latest trailer for the series below.
Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). The series’ second season picks up with our heroes shortly after the tragic fall of Kattegat; an event that has shattered their dreams and altered their destinies. Finding themselves suddenly fugitives in Scandinavia, they are forced to test their ambitions and courage in worlds beyond the fjords of Kattegat.
“The whole concept of Season 2 is that we take these three heroes who are in Scandinavia and blow them out of their comfort zones,” says show creator Jeb Stuart. “Season 2 for Harald and Leif is a road trip: It’s Thelma and Louise on the Dnieper River. The two of them will begin this incredible journey. Freydís has to go to Pomerania, which is a very difficult environment. Season 2 will show that sometimes when you hang out with the people that are just like you, eat like you, talk like you, you can still run into trouble. So you need to stir the pot, which I think is what the Vikings did. And they did it beautifully, better than probably any other culture out there. So we put together this motley crew of nobles, Muslim astronomers and con men, and they shove off from Novgorod.”
I cannot wait to see where the adventure takes Leif Erikson, his fearless sister Freydis Eriksdotter, and Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson next. The debut season was a breath of fresh air and explored Norse mythology in an invigorating new way. Moreover, the series boasts the perfect blend of Norse mythology, political intrigue, and brutal action. And that alone is worth the subscription fee.
As the trailer shows, season 2 finds our heroes shortly after the tragic fall of Kattegat. An event that has shattered their dreams and altered their destinies. Finding themselves fugitives in Scandinavia, they are forced to test their ambitions and courage in worlds beyond their familiar fjords. Let the mayhem begin!
Vikings: Valhalla will return to Netflix on January 12th.
