Is The Armorer the infamous second spy in The Mandalorian Season 3? Max explores the possible treachery in Din Djarin’s stable
I can’t believe I didn’t see it coming. It finally hit me that the reason The Mandalorian Chapter 23 is called ‘The Spies’, plural spies and not spy is that Gideon has a second spy in the deepest of secret territories. The Armorer herself! That’s why Gideon was able to ambush the Mandalorian team in the caverns beneath Mandalore. He was well prepared because the Armorer tipped him off right after Bo-Katan and Din Djarin left. I originally dismissed Gideon getting there so fast as a part of sloppy storytelling. But if my theory is correct, it was done internationally.
BO-KATAN
Also, it was very odd that the Armorer wanted Bo-Katan to remove her helmet and lead the Mandalorians instead of Din. Gideon has a score to settle with Bo. And he would love to become the leader of Mandalore by defeating her and forever shattering her dream of reclaiming the throne. Everything seems so obvious now! Now why would the Armorer want to betray her people? Perhaps Gideon promised her something she wants? Or maybe her true identity is someone that works for the Empire. Conveniently, she never removes her helmet.
PHASMA?
My first impulse was that she is Captain Phasma. But the timeline doesn’t quite add up as Phasma was discovered by the First Order when Hux’s father crash-lands on Parnassos, her uncharted brutal homeworld. Making the Armorer Phasma would make sense as her voice does sound suspiciously like Gwendolyn Christie. And if she gives Gideon what he wants, she may trade her Mandalorian helmet and armor in for a set of shiny new chrome armor.
It wouldn’t be the first time that canon was altered slightly. Look at the Kanan comics. This could be a major shift in continuity to be sure but since I love the idea so much, I’ll let it slide.
The Mandalorian Season 3 concludes on Disney Plus on April 19th, 2023.
