“The final episodes of My Adventures with Superman are a fantastic conclusion to season one. Episode 8 and 9 are a big two-part story arc with a darker tone, high stakes and epic action. While episode 10 sets the ground for season 2 in an explosive way.”
My Adventures with Superman premiered with great success last month. This has been a refreshing and modernized take on the classic characters. The first seven episodes have been a real blast. Earlier this week, I got the chance to watch the final three episodes of the season and you are in for a treat. Episode 8 premieres tonight on Adult Swim and will stream tomorrow on Max. The remaining two episodes will follow the same release schedule – Thursdays on Adult Swim and streams on Max the next day.
2-PART STORY ARC
Episode 8 and 9 are a two-parter story arc called ‘Zero Day.’ Everything has been leading up to this moment. It is a big pay off for what has been happening since the series premiere. These two episodes have some exciting reveals and are filled with action especially the second episode. When you watch them if you don’t know there is an episode after that, you could easily believe this was the season finale. This is not an easy fight for Superman, he is actually struggling. Undoubtedly, these two episodes go to a darker territory than the rest of the season. Nevertheless, the show never forgets that Superman is about hope and inspiring people. It showcases Superman in the way that he is supposed to be. Through adversity, he remains this symbol. This is the Superman I love.
From the very beginning, it has been clear that My Adventures with Superman was heavily inspired by Japanese anime. We got an amazing opening theme and an end credits that reminds me of Sasaki and Miyano. The final episodes have a slightly different end credits with a darker music signaling that the stakes are higher. And as someone who is an anime fan, this makes me really happy. But, my point here is that episode 9 turns into a full Kaiju story. This is pure awesomeness. And I’m all here for it. Supermain and Kaiju are a mix that I didn’t think I needed until now. It works perfectly. When all is said and done, this 2-parter story arc is my favorite of the season. It just delivers on every level.
THE SEASON FINALE
Then, there is episode 10 which is the season 1 finale. This episode is clearly divded into two parts. The first part acts as a return to the calm after the storm from episode 8 and 9. It’s back to a lighter tone with the trio enjoying a little rest. It features more fun interactions between this trio that we have come to love. It lets you think that this is an aftermath episode and it is going to be relatively calm. But that’s when the second part of the episode comes in. This is actually an explosive season finale that sets the ground for season 2. The second season has the potential to be even better.
