The musical version of The Color Purple will be hitting screens on Christmas Day. Watch the new trailer here.
This Christmas, producer Steven Spielberg will be bringing us a musical version of The Color Purple. Spielberg directed the first movie adaptation in 1985 which won great critical reviews and terrific box office. Starring Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey, the film garnered numerous award nominations but sadly failed to win anything. Winfrey is also back onboard the musical remake alongside Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones in producing the movie. The new version is directed by Blitz Bazawule from a screenplay by Marcus Gardley.

The cast for this musical version of the 1982 Alice Walker novel includes Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, and Fantasia Barrino, making her motion picture debut. Barrino and Brooks reprise their roles from the stage musical of the same name. Warner Bros. Pictures have today unveiled a new trailer for the film. Let’s see what we can expect.
