Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes will see Caeser’s son Cornelius continue his father’s dream. Hitting screens in May 2024.

In May of 2024, we will discover the Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes. The film, the fourth in the rebooted franchise, continues from the climax of War For The Planet Of The Apes. After the sad demise of Caeser at the end of the film (I cried buckets), the new film follows his son, Cornelius. And by doing so, fits in perfectly with the Apes storyline that started back in 1968 with the original film. After yesterday’s teaser for the first full trailer, it has finally arrived. Take a look below.

PREMISE

Years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, many ape clans have emerged in the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral state. One ape leader prevents the teachings of Caesar from enslaving other clans in search of the last traces of secret human technology, while another ape embarks on a journey to find freedom alongside a human girl.

THE CAST

Owen Teague leads the cast as Cornelius. He is joined by Freya Allan, Peter Macon, and Eka Darville. Kevin Durand, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands. Sara Wiseman, Lydia Peckham, Ras-Samuel Weld A’abzgi. Dichen Lachman, and William H. Macy.

Wes Ball is sitting in the director’s chair for the movie, from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison. Certain characters have been created for the film by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, as suggested by Pierre Boulle’s original premise. The movie is produced by Joe Hartwick Jr., Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Jason Reed. The score to the film is by John Paesano, replacing Michael Giacchino.

THOUGHTS

Now, this looks like a classic throwback to the original movies. I can’t wait for the film to hit screens. As I grew up in the 1970s and was there for the original set of five films, this to me is heaven. I admit that I had nightmares as a child that the apes were coming to get me, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying every moment of the movies. The reboot took me back to those days while bringing the story to a new generation. This new movie looks to be in the same vein and I’m stoked for it. Any continuation of the Apes saga and mythology is good enough for me. Unless, of course, it’s the 2001 remake from Tim Burton. (Yep, I hated it!)

I would have preferred that they kept Michael Giacchino to provide the score for the film. His scores for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and War For The Planet Of The Apes were sublime. However, I can see why they have moved in a different direction musically. Giacchino’s scores were for the Caeser saga. By recruiting someone else to provide the score, they are setting this film as the next chapter in the ongoing saga. This film is the start of a new trilogy of Apes movies. With that in mind, if it is successful, then Paesano’s score will be for the Cornelius saga.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes will hit screens on May 24th, 2024. And remember…Apes together strong!!
