A trio of new character posters from Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom reveals Black Manta’s quest for vengeance
We are just weeks away from the release of AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, and the studio is ramping up the advertising campaign. Although the film isn’t due to hit cinema screens until December 21st, Warner Bros is eager to ensure that we are all suitably excited. And just minutes after the studio shared the thrilling new trailer, three awesome new character posters emerged from the depths.
The trio of posters features Arthur Curry, Orm, and Black Manta and features all three of their mandates for the upcoming sequel. Curry’s mission statement is to PROTECT. Orm’s is to REDEEM. Typically, Black Manta’s ultimate goal is to AVENGE. But don’t take my word for it, scroll down and explore the posters below.
SYNOPSIS
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
CAST & CREW
Director James Wan and Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa—along with Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman—return in the sequel to the highest-grossing DC film of all time: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Also reprising their roles are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin. The film is produced by Peter Safran, James Wan, and Rob Cowan. The executive producers are Galen Vaisman and Walter Hamada.
RELEASE
Of course, distributing these great posters is only half the battle. The studio has found it almost impossible to gain any traction at the worldwide box office this year. Which is a worrying sign. Films like The Flash, Shazam Fury of the Gods, and Blue Beetle all failed to set the box office alight. And even though they are all solid films, fans just aren’t flocking to the DC banner like they used to.
Making the odds even more incomprehensible is the recent failure of The Marvels. Traditionally MCU fare is immune to the superhero fatigue scenario. But this year, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and now The Marvels have both fallen flat with audiences around the world. And with the Amber Heard controversy still dogging the project and James Gunn all but confirming that Aquaman 2 serves to close the book on the current DCU, many fans have grown disillusioned with the superhero genre. So, will The Lost Kingdom be able to overcome the detractors? Or is the final act of the SnyderVerse doomed to fade into obscurity?
