Annlyel reviews Marvel’s What If Multiverse in WHAT IF…THE AVENGERS ASSEMBLED IN 1602?
One of the outstanding highlights of the second season of What If…? has undoubtedly been the creativity. These aren’t episodes wrapped around refurbished stories of previous movies. These are actual ideas brought to life in exciting ways that feel fun, fresh, and delightfully possible. The notion that somewhere in the multiverse there is a group of Avengers that have banded together in 1602 is such an inspired creative choice that it makes me smile just to think about the episode.
HISTORICAL HEROES?
There is always something so satisfying about seeing so many beloved characters in a single episode, and this episode didn’t disappoint. I loved the idea of a swashbuckling Scott Lang. I thought that was genius. And Wanda Merlin is so genius I wish we could see this variant of hers in live-action. That being said, I was once again thrilled to see Captain Carter play a starring role in this story.
She is the fascinating thread that is tying these seasons together, and I just love seeing her find a way to save the day in the same fashion that Captain America used to in the films. And seeing her take on an enraged Thor was pretty epic.
The incredible thing about this season was just when I thought it couldn’t get any better the finale happened, and yeah, spoiler alert, the finale is ridiculously awesome.
