Love Actually © 2003 Universal Pictures & StudioCanal
This week on The Official Chart, some old favourites remain in the placings, but It’s Love Actually that is the first number 1 of 2024!
Welcome to The Official Film Chart. And a Happy New Year to you all!
There was a top ten chart last week, but I somehow managed to miss it (too much Christmas fun, I expect). I apologise for missing it and not bringing you the final chart of 2023. But rest assured, the holiday is now over and so, it’s back to business as usual!
THE FIRST TOP TEN OF 2024!
With my missing the chart last week, you will see several titles that appeared just before Christmas have dropped out of the placings. However, the chart still sees quite a few of our old favourites still hanging about the top placings. So, finish the sherry, scoff the last mince pies, and hide the chocolate as we take our look at the first top ten chart of 2024.

LOVE ACTUALLY IS THE FIRST NUMBER ONE OF 2024!
Love Actually enjoys a second week at Number 1 on the Official Film Chart. Following the 2003 British festive rom-com’s 20th anniversary, it finally reached the top of the charts following last week’s Christmas celebrations and continues to enjoy its Number 1 position into the new year thanks to incredibly strong digital download numbers.

ELF NABS NUMBER TWO!
Love Actually’s closest competitor Elf holds firm at Number 2.

BARBIE IS BACK UP IN THIRD!
One of 2023’s biggest blockbusters, Barbie rises three places to Number 3. (Read our review here.)

THE POLAR EXPRESS STEAMS ON AT FOUR!
The Polar Express lifts one place to Number 4.

THE EQUALIZER SHOOTS ON AT FIVE!
The Equalizer 3 finishes at Number 5.

IT IS STILL A VIOLENT NIGHT!
Violent Night, starring David Harbour, bounces back up to its previous peak of Number 6. (Read our review here.)

OPPENHEIMER BLOWS A FUSE!
Former chart-topper Oppenheimer tumbles four places to Number 7.

THE FUSE IS STILL BURNING!
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One rises two places to Number 8. (Read our review here.)

MARIO GETS AN EXTRA CHART LIFE!
Making his return to the Top 10 is the animated family favourite The Super Mario Bros Movie at Number 9.

A CHRISTMAS VACATION ROUNDS OFF THE CHART!
Finally, the 1989 classic National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation ends the week at Number 10.

FIRST CHART OF 2024…DONE!
And so we have our first chart of 2024. We can expect to see the Christmas movies drop out over the coming weeks, now the celebrations are over. But what will be replacing them? One that could be is The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes (Read our review here.)

The film has hit PVOD this week for the price of £15.99 to rent or £19.99 to buy. Could it slither its way into the top ten next week? Time will tell, so until then…
Whatever you decide, whatever you buy, stay safe, be kind, look after each other, and happy viewing!
