Life finds a way. Scarlett Johansson is officially in talks to join Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World sequel.
Scarlett Johansson is in discussions with Universal to star in the sequel to Jurassic World, directed by Gareth Edwards. The screenplay for the movie was written by David Koepp, who also wrote the original Jurassic Park. Koepp is reuniting with Steven Spielberg to take the franchise in a new direction with an all-new cast. The film was originally going to be directed by David Leitch, but the studio and the director had creative differences, which led to a rethink. Now, Universal is moving forward with Gareth Edwards (known for directing Rogue One) as the new director.
The new feature film has been in production for quite some time, to the point where Universal is still considering a potential release date in 2025. However, this may be overly optimistic at this stage. Frank Marshall will return as the producer, while Steven Spielberg will act as an executive producer through Amblin Entertainment, maintaining his connection to the franchise he first launched in 1993.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON
Per THR, The upcoming film will mark the actor’s return to franchise movies since her departure from the role of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During her tenure in the MCU, she appeared in several blockbuster Marvel movies, including Black Widow, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and all the Avengers films released so far. However, Johansson diversified her portfolio and earned critical acclaim from the Academy for her standout performances in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Johansson will also be starring in the upcoming animated movie Transformers One, set to be released later this year.

LIFE FINDS A WAY
The upcoming film in the Jurassic Park franchise is seen as a fresh start, a “new Jurassic era.” As a result, we shouldn’t expect to see characters like Owen Grady (played by Chris Pratt) or Claire Dearing (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) in the movie. The legacy characters from the original “Park era” – Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm – are unlikely to appear. This means the characters can finally move on from their previous experiences with dinosaurs.

A NEW ERA
The next movie will tie more to the later sequels than the original films. However, which prehistoric creatures will appear in the movie is currently unknown. The report about the film doesn’t mention the return of Rexy, the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex of the series. Furthermore, no hint exists about the reappearance of Owen Grady’s companion, Velociraptor Blue. Blue will likely accompany Owen Grady to greener pastures as the franchise moves from its original stars.
It is essential to approach this news cautiously until the studio releases an official statement. However, if the reports are accurate, Universal is making a solid effort to revive the franchise in a grand way. David Koepp’s return to oversee the screenplay suggests a return to the series’ philosophical roots. A plot point that had faded from the latter installments in the franchise. However, the debate was a lynchpin throughout Michael Crichton’s original novels.
Dinosaur fans can sleep soundly – the age of dinosaurs is not over yet!
