“Despite its flaws, the Hot Toys Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a good figure that will be a great addition to your Spider-Man collection.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home may have been released three years ago now, but we are still collecting collectibles from the worldwide phenomenon. Hot Toys has finally released their Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire). There are two different versions: the basic one and the deluxe version that comes with a Sandman diorama base.

THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES
This is the same box design as the other Spider-Man: No Way Home figures, which I love. You get this beautiful promotional drawing of the character as he crosses a mystic arts portal. The presence of the villains adds a cool factor to this box. Green Goblin’s pumpkin bombs, Electro’s lightning, and Doc Ock’s tentacles are all featured!
In terms of accessories, you get the usual Spider-Man stuff. The display base is similar to the one that came with the Amazing Spider-Man, except they changed the logo and the film’s title card. He has twelve hands – a pair of pointing hands to recreate the meme, two open hands, two gesture hands, two fist hands, one to hold his mask or the cure for Sandman, one to hold a web effect, and two webshooting hands. You can attach the usual web shooters to insert the web effects on these two. Then, he has six strings of spider web and an open spider web effect. It’s precisely the same ones included in all the MCU Spider-Man figures.
The mask is always an excellent accessory when displaying the figure with the headsculpt. Finally, Spider-Man comes with the Sandman cure. It’s a nicely detailed accessory, not one I will use, but for people who bought the deluxe version, it may be helpful to use it with the Sandman diorama base.

THE FIGURE
I wasn’t collecting Hot Toys when they released Spider-Man 3 figures, so this is my first opportunity to get a Tobey Maguire Spider-Man figure. I’m happy to finally have Andrew and Tobey’s Spider-Man figures next to my Tom Holland figures. Honestly, Hot Toys has done beautiful work with this suit. The problem is the type of fabric used on every Spider-Man figure. This means you must be careful when posing your figure in the same action pose for an extended time. Because of that, I always try to display my Spider-Man figures in a neutral pose. Overall, the suit has excellent detail with the webbing.
However, we all know there have been troubles with the masked head. Hot Toys improved with later batches, but I still don’t think it’s that great. The webbing alignment with the eyes and the head is pretty good. But, the head seam is rough. It looks so much better on other Spider-Man figures, and I can’t say it looks great here for Tobey. I’ve seen people getting something worse, but I’m not happy about this.

THE HEADSCULPT
The headsculpt was made by Yulli Choi and painted by JC Hong. Yulli Choi never misses with her work. She has captured the likeness of Tobey Maguire. This is a fantastic headsculpt right there! I think it only misses the separate rolling eyeballs. Unfortunately, the Spider-Man: No Way Home line of figures has found itself in an awkward position. It started before Hot Toys included separate rolling eyeballs for all their figures; thus, most of them don’t have that feature. Only the last three have it – the two versions of Green Goblin and the new red and blue Spider-Man suit. It’s a shame, but that’s how it is. The same happened with the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

VERDICT
Despite its flaws, the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a good figure that will be a great addition to your Spider-Man collection. Plus, the Tobey Maguire headsculpt is simply outstanding!
