Disney Investor Day | Alien TV Show In Production For FX On Hulu

Noah Hawley’s upcoming Alien series gets a title. Alien: Earth promises to bring the Xenomorph threat home.

Noah Hawley’s Alien series finally has a title. The long-awaited series is finally nearing completion, and the series’ official title has been revealed. In a recent interview with Variety, FX chairman John Landgraf revealed that the series is officially titled ALIEN: EARTH.

After bagging an impressive 93 nominations at the 76th Emmy Awards, Landgraf was in high spirits and nonchalantly shared the title in one of his replies.

“Noah is deep in work on Season 1 of ‘Alien: Earth’ right now,” Landgraf said. “We’re in post-production, and we are talking to him and watching cuts every week. We’re pretty bullish on ‘Alien: Earth’ and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, ‘Alien: Earth’ is a returning television series, we want him to focus on on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of ‘Fargo.”

THE SERIES

Sydney Chandler, who stars in the Alien TV series as Wendy, recently revealed that she has finished shooting the series. In the series, her character is described as a hybrid meta-human with a child’s cognitive and emotional capacity, yet inhabiting an adult’s body. The show also features talented actors such as Essie Davis, Alex Lawther, Kit Young, Adarsh Gourav, Timothy Olyphant, and others.

Hawley has promised that the series will expand the Alien sandbox by liberating the story from the traditional confinement. The movies have seen their stories confined to either a spaceship, a prison, or a settlers’ colony. But Hawley is eager to test the boundaries by creating a narrative where the infestation cannot be contained.

“The alien stories are always trapped … trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship,” Hawley said. “I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.“

WEYLAN-YUTANI

Thankfully, Ripley’s old nemesis, the greedy Weylan-Yutani corporation, will also play a significant part in the series. Additionally, the company’s participation will provoke a moral debate about the development of artificial intelligence and its growing influence on society. This topic has become increasingly pertinent, especially in the aftermath of last year’s SAG-AFTRA writer’s strikes. So, it will be fascinating to see how the series incorporates this divisive debate into its narratives.

“In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence—but what if there are other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg enhancements or transhuman downloads?” Hawley said. “Which of those technologies is going to win? It’s ultimately a classic science fiction question: does humanity deserve to survive? As Sigourney Weaver said in that second movie, ‘I don’t know which species is worse. At least they don’t f*ck each other over for a percentage.’“

RELEASE

Sadly, the series has yet to be given a definitive release date. It will debut on FX in the United States and Disney Plus worldwide. In the meantime, Alien fans can look forward to the latest big-screen adventure when ALIEN: ROMULUS brings the terror to cinemas on August 16th.  Fede Alvarez has promised to deliver a film harnessing the atmosphere of both Alien and Aliens. Therefore, fans of the franchise will be eating well this summer, and with Noah Hawley’s series nearing completion, the battle against the Xenomorphs is back, and it’s here to stay.
