LOVE IS BLIND UK
LOVE IS BLIND: UK sees single Brits from across the country meet, date, and get engaged before seeing each other face-to-face. Netflix polled 2,000 single Brits to discover whether the way a person sounds could affect their chances in the pods and IRL. The results reveal the hottest accents in the UK ahead of the launch of their show Love Is Blind UK on Wednesday 7th August.
Almost half (49 per cent) think that regional accents are sexy. While a further 43 per cent believe they can be, but it depends upon where the person is from.

ATTRACTION
One in ten (eight per cent) don’t think they are attractive AT ALL. Two-thirds (59 per cent) have fancied someone purely because of their accent. While eight in ten (81 per cent) admit they would put up with an annoying accent if the person was physically attractive.
80 per cent agree with the classic Shakespearean phrase ‘Love is blind’ from The Merchant of Venice. With a further 72 per cent believing it is possible to fall in love with someone without actually seeing them. Despite this, nine in ten (87 per cent) singletons say they build a picture of what a person looks like in their mind if they message or speak to them on the phone. Even though for 85 per cent it was completely wrong when they met the person face-to-face.

EMMA AND MATT WILLIS
Birmingham-born TV presenter, Emma Willis who is hosting the new series alongside her husband Matt, said:
“As a born and bred Brummy, I’m gutted to hear that people think the friendly tones of the West Midlands is the least attractive accent, it’s my absolute favourite! It is really interesting though to see how accents make a huge difference to the laws of attraction and impacts those all-important first impressions for daters. Don’t go changing though, eh bab… ;)”
London-born Matt adds:
“I can definitely see why accents can make an impact but I have to say, unlike many Brits, I love Emma’s Birmingham accent and to hear people talking in their own inflection. The UK has so many different accents and that is what makes it unique, but the most important thing to remember is that what matters is who is behind it.”

RELATIONSHIP TRAITS
Over half (53 per cent) admit there are celebrities they think are good-looking but don’t fancy, because of their accents. That is not a problem for Emma Watson (20 per cent). Dua Lipa (19 per cent) and Adele (15 per cent) though as they are considered the celebrities with the sexiest accents. Sean Connery (15 per cent). Harry Styles (14 per cent). Kate Winslet (14 per cent) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (14 per cent) also have sexy lilts to their voices.
In addition to accents, six in ten (61 per cent) say that music is a deal breaker in a relationship, so much so that bad taste in music (15 per cent) features in the top dating kicks. BO (64 per cent). Bad breath (64 per cent). Being rude to waiters (57 per cent). Picking their nose (52 per cent) and dirty fingernails (52 per cent) are other icks that turn daters off. Along with slurping food (47 per cent). Always looking at your phone (44 per cent) and putting on a baby voice (39 per cent).
Research of 2,000 single Brits was commissioned by Netflix and was conducted by Perspectus Global in July 2024.
