Warner Bros has put a smile on our faces by dropping another new Joker Folie A Deux poster. Todd Phillips’ sequel to his runaway DC blockbuster is laughing into cinemas on October 4th, and the studio is having the last laugh. The film recently earned a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, and the early buzz is hugely positive. The latest one-sheet showcases The Joker and Harley Quinn together as they plot to unleash their brand of chaos on the streets of Gotham!
In Joker Folie a Deux, Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck, also known as Joker, while Zazie Beetz will play Sophie Dumond. Additionally, Lady Gaga will portray Dr. Harleen Quinzel, also known as Harley Quinn. This film represents a significant departure for the Joker character, as it has been conceived as a musical. The production plans to incorporate 15 musical numbers, including new songs. Hildur Guðnadóttir, who previously won an Oscar for her work on the first film, is returning to compose the score. THE LAST LAUGH
Sadly, the director has confirmed that Joker: Folie A Deux will be the last hurrah for this character in the outgoing DC slate. With the newly minted DC Studios now taking shape and about to relaunch the DC Universe under James Gunn, there is a blank canvas to be explored. Not that Gunn has sidelined Arthur Fleck’s adventures in DC’s Elseworlds. Todd Phillips thinks that Arthur Fleck’s story has reached its natural conclusion: “I think we’ve said what we wanted to say in this world.”

His ambitious vision of DC’s greatest villain delivered cinematic gold for the first outing, so we should expect big things from the sequel. Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal as The Joker in 2019 was a masterclass, and expanding the role in the sequel is an enticing prospect. Imagine adding Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn – it’s like putting the cherry on top of a delicious cake! This combination sounds like a recipe for success on paper, but how it all plays out on the screen is still a mystery.
