Explore the Hot Toys C-3PO figure from STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI. Is this the ultimate collectible for Star Wars fans? Find out in our review.
It’s time to return to the galaxy far, far away to review the new Hot Toys C-3PO figure from STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI. As part of its line of figures to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film, Hot Toys has released its very first C-3PO figure in its classic gold version! But has the team at Hot Toys delivered the definitive version of the legendary protocol droid? Let’s find out.

THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES
Since it’s an anniversary figure, it’s not the usual Star Wars collectibles box, even though it looks the same on the outside—a black box with a promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. It’s when you remove this part that the magic happens. You get the vintage-style box. It’s a nice tribute to the Kenner figures with the fancy Hot Toys touch.
You don’t get much in terms of accessories, but what you get is worth it. This figure marks the debut of the new Star Wars display base that Hot Toys will use more often. However, it’s an absolute disaster. This base is almost twice as big as the usual Star Wars interior base, so any figure using that new base will automatically stand taller. It will look off next to figures using other bases. Plus, it’s twice as big as the usual bases so that it will take up some space in your collection. The problem is that Hot Toys will include this one with several upcoming figures.
If you were planning to have a shelf with Return of the Jedi figures fitting all well together, it won’t happen, as Han Solo is getting the same base as C-3PO. I often complain about the sandy footprints base, but it’s still good. This new base isn’t.

JABBA’S PALACE
The center of the platform recreates the floor pattern from Jabba’s Palace, but the rest of the base is grey, feeling more like the interior of a ship. It’s two conflicting environments that don’t fit together. I hope this base doesn’t become the new norm for Star Wars. As for the hands, C-3PO comes with six hands – two open hands and two different pairs of gesture hands. Moreover, he comes with an additional faceplate on which one of his eyes has been damaged. Finally, the best accessory is Salacious Crumb with his cushion. This is the perfect accessory to include! Salacious has been nicely sculpted with a fantastic paint app. Plus, he has limited articulation.

THE FIGURE
I have been waiting for a golden C-3PO from Hot Toys for quite some time, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Looking at it, you can’t tell, but he is pretty heavy, like the Iron Man figures. This is because of the diecast. The legs and some parts of the upper body are diecast. It makes all the difference when they use diecast rather than a shade of color that tries to recreate a metal. And since this figure is based on the Tatooine scenes, the figure has a dirt effect. Honestly, it doesn’t bother me, but this isn’t the case for people who want a full, shiny C-3PO.
The wires on his torso are all separately sculpted; they’re not attached to the torso. Be careful when moving the arms, as the plastic pieces that allow the articulation are fragile. Unfortunately, this figure requires batteries for the LED light-up effect, not the USB-powered system we have seen in recent figures.
