“BLUE LOCK makes a triumphant return. The first episode is a moment of reflection for the characters while also setting the tone for what to expect in season 2.”

After a spinoff film about Nagi Seishiro this Summer, BLUE LOCK is coming back with its second season. The first episode premieres later today on Crunchyroll at 5PM BST.

A CHARACTER-DRIVEN EPISODE

The goal for the BLUE LOCK program now is the match against Japan’s U-20s. But with 29 players left, a team selection is needed first. This episode prepares the characters for their upcoming tryouts to be part of the team that will face the U-20s. It’s a moment of reflection for the characters before the storm. Thus, it’s an episode that you could call slow but in a good way. Indeed, it lets the characters breathe as they need to make a choice for what’s ahead.

Character-driven episodes are important and starting the season with one is the right choice. It allows the audience to spend some time with all the characters and get into their state of mind. This episode is a turning point for what’s coming next. Both the characters and the audience know that. This makes a compelling season premiere. The first episode really sets the tone for what to expect in season 2. We all know that the best is yet to come.

YOICHI ISAGI’S CHOICE

Right from the first scene, BLUE LOCK lets you know that this episode isn’t going to be easy for Yoichi Isagi. He’s tormented by his relationship with Rin Itoshi but also by the choice he has to make. Throughout the episode, we see him doubt and question himself as he interacts with the other characters. It’s so interesting to see how each of his interactions affects him and helps him make his choice. In a way, it’s also a look back at what happened in season 1 and how it shaped Yoichi. Undoubtedly, the best scene is the one he shares with Reo Mikage. It’s an emotional one. I think fans will surely talk about it!

VERDICT

BLUE LOCK makes a triumphant return. The first episode is a moment of reflection for the characters while also setting the tone for what to expect in season 2.

BLUE LOCK season 2 premieres later today on Crunchyroll.
