Don’t miss the trailer for Death of a Unicorn, a twisted creature feature starring Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd. Witness the bizarre story of a father and daughter’s encounter with a unicorn.
A24 has dropped the first trailer for Jenna Ortega’s Death of a Unicorn. The dark and twisted creature feature completed principal photography at the back end of 2023 and has flown under the radar until now. But at long last, the wait for our first look is over. In addition to Ortega, the film stars Paul Rudd, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant in a tale as bizarre as the title. In the film, Rudd and Ortega star as a father and daughter duo who inadvertently hit a UNICORN with their car. Yes, you heard right, a Unicorn.
But, with a dinner date with Rudd’s employer looming, they decide to take the carcass with them and sell it to the highest bidder. What could possibly go wrong? Quite a bit, apparently! Especially when another vengeful Unicorn comes calling. But don’t take my word for it. Scroll down and check out the trailer here:
THE MASTER RETURNS
Ordinarily, the trailer alone would be enough to have us licking our lips in anticipation. But when you throw the legendary horror master, John Carpenter, into the mix, the film’s gravitas goes up a notch. The legendary director and composer has boarded the project with his collaborators Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies to craft the film’s score. So, we can expect some genuinely chilling soundscapes to accompany the images on the screen. Plus, with Richard E. Grant on hand to bring Rudd’s greedy boss to life, the film’s stock is riding high.
SYNOPSIS
The movie follows Elliot and his teenage daughter Ridley as they are en route to a crisis management summit with Elliot‘s bosses, the Leopold family, when they accidentally crash into a unicorn. The Leopolds quickly seize the opportunity to exploit the magical creature’s flesh, blood, and horn, which are endowed with supernaturally curative properties. However, as they delve deeper into their research, they discover the deadly consequences of their actions.

RELEASE
Alex Scharfman collaborated with Drew Houpt and Lucas Joaquin from Secret Engine, Tyler Campellone and Lars Knudsen from Square Peg, as well as Tim Headington and Theresa Steele Page of Ley Line Entertainment to produce “Death of a Unicorn.” The executive producers include Aster, Rudd, and Ortega, along with Michael Williams, Jacob Epstein, David Darby, and Nate Kamiya. Financing for the project was provided by A24 and Ley Line Entertainment, with A24 also taking care of the distribution.
Thankfully, the trailer hinting at a Spring 2025 release means we won’t have to wait much longer to see the film. With Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd bringing their talents to the table, plus a fantastic supporting cast, “Death of a Unicorn” is shaping up to be an absolute classic. And with John Carpenter’s fantastic music thrown in, we might be on the verge of something truly special – and I’ll be first in line to check it out. Bring on the mayhem.
