Sony Pictures has officially unveiled Jumanji: Open World as the title of its third Jumanji film starring Dwayne Johnson.
Look out, Jumanji fans, because Sony Pictures has officially announced Jumanji: Open World as the title of its third and final adventure in the rebooted franchise. The film stars Dwayne Johnson back as Dr. Xander ‘Smolder’ Bravestone, alongside Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, Kevin Hart as Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar, and Jack Black as Professor Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Oberon. Moreover, the film is intended to bookend Jake Kasdan’s box office-conquering trilogy.
The title was unveiled at CinemaCon, where the studio revealed details of its upcoming release slate. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black took the stage during the event. The trio paid tribute to the late Robin Williams, saying they are using the original dice from the 1995 adventure film for the next chapter.

LEVELLING UP!
After allowing the gathered audience to get a first look at some footage, Sony revealed the film’s premise. It reads:
“a repairman played by Lamorne Morris opens up a Jumanji video game that brings all the characters into the real world. It’s the first time the movie players play with the video game characters in the real world. The catch is they are demo versions, with Bravestone (Johnson) having a terrible Spanish accent. They also run like 90s video game characters.”
CAST & CREW
In addition to returning stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, the film features a strong supporting cast. Returning cast members include Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, Morgan Turner, Bebe Neuwirth, Danny DeVito, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, and Rhys Darby. There are also new additions. These include Brittany O’Grady, Burn Gorman, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes.

RELEASE
Despite the rebooted saga receiving mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, it hasn’t stopped the franchise from making a killing at the global box office. To date, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has grossed over $962 million worldwide. Its sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, grossed over $800 million in 2019. So Sony Pictures is banking on another decent haul of box office bucks when the film is released this Christmas.
Jumanji: Open World was originally expected to premiere on December 11, 2026. However, given the clash with Dune Part 3 and Avengers: Doomsday, Sony pushed the release back to Christmas Day.
