A New Trailer for Mortal Kombat II Unleashes Johnny Cage!

Sad news for Mortal Kombat fans as Warner Bros pushes back Mortal Kombat II until May 2026

Although its release was just around the corner, Warner Bros has pushed back the release of Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat II. The long-awaited sequel was due to hit cinemas on October 24, but now, the film won’t be delivering a flawless victory until May 15, 2026.

But what could prompt the studio into making this last gasp shift? According to Deadline, it’s all down to the studio heads believing the film will be far more profitable in the early summer slot. The October release date was looking a little crowded with films like Regretting You, Bugonia, and Last Days all releasing within days of each other. So this could be a masterstroke by Warner Bros. But it will come as a bitter pill to swallow for the majority of fans who were gearing up for another round of flawless victories in just two months.

Baraka in Mortal Kombat II - Delayed until May 2026

RELEASE

Although the first installment in the series was enjoyable, it received a mixed reaction from fans, primarily due to the shortness of beloved characters like Johnny Cage. Thankfully, the studio is rectifying that with the sequel, and it is brimming with characters as a result. Karl Urban looks made for this franchise, and it’s great to see him thrust front and center in the sequel. But can Mortal Kombat II truly deliver a flawless victory at the box office?

With Simon McQuoid returning as director and composer Benjamin Wallfisch back for the soundtrack, this film has all the signs of being an instant hit, and we cannot wait!

Mortal Kombat II will be released in the UK on May 15, 2026, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
