Based on Stig Larsson’s globally bestselling novels, Sky has commissioned the new original drama series, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Would you believe that it’s been seventeen years since the original film version of Stig Larsson’s first novel in his bestselling Millennium novels, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? The original film version of Larsson’s 2005 book featured the late Michael Nyqvist as Mikael Blomkvist and Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander. Of course, Hollywood couldn’t resist making an English-language version. 2011 saw the release of the Hollywood version, featuring Daniel Craig as Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Salander. But if there’s one thing we all know by now, you can never let a decent property lie dormant for too long.
Sky today announces The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, an eight-part Sky Original series from Left Bank Pictures (The Crown, Dept Q), based on the globally bestselling novels written by Stieg Larsson. This bold and contemporary reimagining brings The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo into the present, grounded in the characters and investigative DNA of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium novels, with themes that carry heightened relevance today. The Millennium novels have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is produced by Left Bank Pictures. Production will commence in Spring 2026 in Lithuania.
BEHIND THE SERIES
Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher, Behind Her Eyes, Spider-Noir) and Angela LaManna (The Haunting Of Bly Manor, Behind Her Eyes) will write and executive produce the series. Executive producers also include Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore and John Phillips for Left Bank Pictures and Sam Hoyle for Sky.
The series will be available on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution with pre-sale efforts already underway in the United States. Sony Pictures Entertainment previously brought Larsson’s work to the big screen with the acclaimed 2011 film of the same name, directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, and the 2018 sequel The Girl in the Spider’s Web, directed by Fede Álvarez.

The series is currently in production. Check back here for any further developments or announcements on this exciting story.
